“A new ramble? Don’t you ramble enough?”
Well I do, but this is a more structured ramble. Er- a ramble about a structured ramble.
Anyway here’s a little update for y’all: I’m writing a long essay. I swear, I’m not gonna make it feel like some research paper you had to skim through in school because you procrastinated and can’t find the sources you need. No, it’ll be fun! It’ll be a good deep-dive into the widespread problem of artists of all kinds being severely overworked. Like I said, it’ll be fun!
I spent a good chunk of class today working on it, and it’s… certainly going! I was able to get a few new sources in, and I have some new angles to examine! An example of which being the lax labor laws that allow artists to be overworked. (I swear this will not be like a law textbook-) This essay may primarily focus on the effects of being overworked, but I want to add some emphasis on the causes too. I’ll probably have to tweak some things around before we do peer-reviews on Thursday and add some more details into each case I look at. And the essay will likely need some major restructuring eventually. It’s a little messy right now.
What’s hilarious though is how different things have gotten since we first started going down this path. Before I did my prewrite (which I might post here too, if y’all are interested), I wanted to focus more on the transition from 2D to 3D animation. But this? I feel like the health and safety of artists is- y’know- a bit more important than that? I feel a lot more motivated writing about this than my previous topic.
Though now, I’m starting to get new design ideas. The fact that I can add in Youtube and Spotify… stuff into my posts could let me do lots of interesting things. Plus, many of the quotes I use are from social media posts, especially from Twitter. If I can embed them into the post directly, I think it’ll look a lot better than just quoting it or screenshotting it or something.
