Where I started…

When I was around 12 years old, I stumbled across a little webseries known as Eddsworld. It was originally created and animated by Edd Gould, following the misadventures and his friends. It was a simple cartoon, at first animated by Edd alone before other artists took on the show after his death in 2012.
In many ways, I looked up to Edd and those who kept his world turning a full decade after his passing. I could tell how much he adored his work, and the devotion shown by those who continued it struck a chord with me. Wanting to follow in their footsteps, I picked up a pencil and began drawing into an old sketchbook I had shoved into a forgotten cabinet. I started with drawing characters from that series I loved so dearly, but I soon shifted to my own characters and stories. I still think back fondly on that time of experimentation and trying new things…
…even though I CANNOT look at those old drawings anymore.
Yyyyikes.
Where I Am…
I’m now 20 years old. I still use the same drawing tablet I had when I was 12. And I never let go of one dream of mine: to make something that inspired others the way Eddsworld inspired me.
At first, I wanted to go down the same route as Edd and make an animated series, but I was quick to abandon that upon realizing just how slow animating can be. So I then shifted my focus to webcomics, (Webtoons specifically) only to drop the concept once again when I realized that this, too, would be far too slow. I would pick up the idea of comics again, then drop it. Then pick it up. Then drop it.
That cycle kept going for 7 years. My plans kept changing, and as they did, so did my art. Before I knew it, my drawings had gone from this…
…to this.
I’m really proud of how far I’ve come, don’t get me wrong. But even now, I’m not fully satisfied with my work. There always seems to be something off, something wrong, something that I’m not happy with. But beyond all of that, I never started that big project I dreamed of. I love storytelling, and yet, I didn’t have the discipline I needed to finish anything.
Now, I plan on changing that.
Where I’m Going…
This blog is meant to be a jumping-off point for me to finally make a webcomic. I know I need to take one step at a time, though. While I have many stories that are near and dear to my heart, I know I need to learn the ropes before diving in. Comics aren’t just drawings– there are many more elements that go into comic creation that I rarely ever think about.
So, I’m hoping to take you all on this little adventure with me. I’m not expecting things to go smoothly- it would honestly be boring if it did. But I know that if I don’t at least try to make something, I never will. I don’t want to be endlessly thinking that I want to make a comic. I want to actually do it. And hopefully, by the end of it, I’ll have something cool I can show off to you all.
Until then, let’s get swinging!
