With another election come and gone, social media has become a violent battle field of ideology versus fact.
Platforms such as X and Facebook have been split in half, both reading and sharing posts exclusively about their own views. Opinions from one party are never even recommended to the other. Mainstream news sources have weaponized this, supporting the stories that government officials send out and promoting them to further their own agenda.
Even worse, some organizations target their opponent’s posts in an attempt to get them taken down, claiming thing like they are ‘harmful to kids.’ While this has been unsuccessful so far, it is chilling to see how far people will go to spread their own opinions.
The new administration, however, pledges to curb the spread of misinformation – despite the fact that it helped them gain power. Proposals are already being made on how to go about this while still maintaing regard for the First Amendment. Time will tell if they will be successful.
